How Tether handles your data

The short version: we sell subscriptions, not you.

Your address book is not readable by anyone else. Not other users, and not routinely by anyone at Tether.

You are found by a one-way hash. When someone checks whether you are on Tether, the match runs against a salted hash. There is no reversible directory of our users. We do keep your own number and email on your account — we need them to text you a sign-in code and send account notices — but never to let other people look you up.

Encrypted in transit and at rest. TLS in flight, AES-256 at rest. Photos have their location metadata stripped on upload.

Nothing is stored that you did not pick. Only the contacts you choose are saved. The rest of your address book is never uploaded.

Revoking actually revokes. Your device does not keep a copy of the fields someone shares with you — it reads theirs each time. So when they stop sharing something, it is gone, and no stale copy can hide that.

Availability shares busy blocks, nothing else. Never event titles, never locations.

You can leave with everything. Export as CSV, JSON, or vCard. Delete your account and the data goes with it.

No ads, no ad-tech trackers, no data sale. We comply with GDPR and CCPA/CPRA.
