Host an event, including people who are not on Tether

What this is

Hosting something where half the guest list will never download an app. Tether handles both halves — connections get it in the app, everyone else gets a link that works on its own.

Before you start

Nothing. The friend who will never install anything does not need to.

Steps

1. Open Plan and create an event. Title, time, place.
2. Invite people. Pull in a whole circle at once, or pick individuals.
3. If people should bring something, open More options → What to bring. Add one short line for each thing you need. Assign a line to yourself or an invitee, or leave it open for someone to claim.
4. Add anyone who is not on Tether by email — they get an invitation that stands on its own.
5. Set a capacity if the room has one. Once it is full, later replies go to a waitlist rather than being turned away.
6. Add a co-host if someone else is running it with you. Once they accept, they can manage the bring list too.

What to expect afterward

Guests without accounts RSVP straight from the link. No sign-up, no app, no account — they enter an email so they can return to their response later, then you see it.

The bring list sits directly below the RSVP controls. Guests who choose Going or Maybe can claim an open request in one tap or add something else they plan to bring. If they later choose Can’t go or move to the waitlist, their requests reopen and their personal offers disappear. Reminders include anything that person committed to bring.

If the guest list is hidden, people can still tell whether a request is open, but another person’s name is replaced with Claimed. Hosts and accepted co-hosts always see who owns each line. Guest-created offers stay in the same manager as a separate, read-only section: an organizer can remove an inappropriate offer after confirming the action, and the affected guest is notified.

If someone drops out and a spot opens, the first person on the waitlist is offered it automatically. If details change, everyone who said yes is told, including the guests who never joined Tether.

Troubleshooting

A guest says the link does not work. Invitation links are per guest. Forwarding one to a different person will not behave — send them their own.

I need to remove someone after inviting them. You can, and they are told the invitation was withdrawn rather than being left wondering.

Nobody is replying. Send a reminder from the event rather than starting a group text — replies land back on the event where you can actually count them. The reminder also includes each person’s bring commitments.

A guest says an item disappeared while they were responding. Someone else claimed it first. Their RSVP still saved; they can reopen the event and choose another open request.
