1. Consent to receive messages

By providing your mobile phone number and requesting a verification code, you expressly consent to receive SMS messages from Tether and our SMS service provider, Telnyx. These messages include one-time passcodes (OTPs) used to sign you in, security alerts (such as a notice when your phone number changes), and account notifications. Consent to receive these messages is a condition of using Tether, because Tether uses phone OTP as its sole sign-in method.

2. Carrier requirements

You must use a valid mobile phone number from a recognized mobile carrier. Voice-over-IP, landline, and toll-free numbers are not supported. At signup we verify your line type through a third-party carrier lookup (Telnyx). The carrier name, line type, and country returned are cached locally, keyed by a one-way hash of the number — not your account — so a repeat signup does not trigger a new paid lookup. See the Privacy Policy for details.

3. Message frequency

Message frequency varies and depends on your activity — for example, each time you sign in on a new device or perform a security-sensitive action. We do not use SMS for marketing or promotional campaigns.

4. Cost

Tether does not charge you for SMS messages. However, message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile plan and carrier. Contact your carrier for details about your plan.

5. How to opt out

You may opt out of non-transactional SMS at any time by replying STOP to any message. After you send STOP, you will receive a single confirmation message and then no further non-essential messages.

Please note: because Tether signs you in using SMS one-time passcodes, opting out of all messaging may prevent you from signing in. Transactional security messages that are essential to operating your account may continue to the extent permitted by law. To stop all messages, you can delete your account from Settings.

6. How to get help

Reply HELP to any message for assistance, or email us at [email protected].

7. Carrier liability

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery is subject to effective transmission by your mobile carrier and is not guaranteed.

8. Privacy

Information collected in connection with SMS messaging is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your mobile number with third parties for their own marketing.

9. Changes

We may update these SMS Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last Updated" date above and, where required, communicated to you.
